Does the Cat B40 work on EE?

It works, with caveats.

Works with caveats

Calls and texts can fall back to 2G. EE starts switching 2G off from May 2029. We haven't found confirmation that 4G Calling works on EE. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 7, 20).

It works today, but calls on the Cat B40 rely on a part of EE's network with a switch-off on the way. Check the dates below before you commit for years.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and EE's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

EE (UK)

  • 3G: Switched off (completed 2024)
  • 2G: Staying on for now; EE says it will start switching 2G off from May 2029

Cat B40

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
  • 4G bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28
  • 4G Calling: unknown – No network or maker VoLTE confirmation found.

The same applies to networks that run on EE: BT Mobile. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
