Does the Cat B40 work on SFR?

Last checked 23 Oct 20267 sourcesWorked out from published specs

Yes, for now.

Works with caveats

With 2G being switched off, calls and texts fall back to 3G, which this phone supports (900 MHz, 2100 MHz). SFR plans to switch 3G off at the end of 2028. We haven't found confirmation that 4G Calling works on SFR. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 7, 20).

It works today, but calls on the Cat B40 rely on a part of SFR's network with a switch-off on the way. Check the dates below before you commit for years.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and SFR's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

SFR (France)

  • 3G: On until the end of 2028
  • 2G: Switch-off in two phases: 15–30 November 2026 in big cities (incl. the Paris region, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nantes), then everywhere from 1 to 15 December 2026

Cat B40

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
  • 4G bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28
  • 4G Calling: unknown – No network or maker VoLTE confirmation found.

The same applies to networks that run on SFR: RED by SFR. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
