Does the HMD 105 4G work on KPN?
Mostly, with a catch.
Works with caveatsCalls and texts can fall back to 2G. KPN switches 2G off for good on 1 December 2027. It supports 4G Calling, but we haven't found confirmation that it's enabled on KPN. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 7, 20).
Fine for now. The catch is how calls get through: if they ride on 2G or 3G, they stop when KPN switches that off.
We worked this out from the phone's published bands and KPN's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.
KPN (Netherlands)
- 3G: Switched off (31 March 2022)
- 2G: On until 1 December 2027 (KPN started moving customers who don't need it off 2G in March 2026)
HMD 105 4G
- 2G: GSM 900 / 1800
- 3G: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 2100 MHz
- 4G bands: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20
- 4G Calling: yes – Listed in HMD's VoLTE-verified product list (TA-1653). One GSMArena owner says VoLTE only worked on some operators.
The same applies to networks that run on KPN: Simyo. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
