It works, with caveats.

Works with caveats

Calls and texts can fall back to 2G. KPN switches 2G off for good on 1 December 2027. It supports 4G Calling, but we haven't found confirmation that it's enabled on KPN. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 7, 20, 38).

It works today, but calls on the Nokia 235 4G (2024) rely on a part of KPN's network with a switch-off on the way. Check the dates below before you commit for years.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and KPN's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

KPN (Netherlands)

  • 3G: Switched off (31 March 2022)
  • 2G: On until 1 December 2027 (KPN started moving customers who don't need it off 2G in March 2026)

Nokia 235 4G (2024)

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 2100 MHz
  • 4G bands: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, 41 (EU model)
  • 4G Calling: yes – Listed in HMD's VoLTE-verified product list (TA-1614).

The same applies to networks that run on KPN: Simyo. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
