Does the Nokia 2780 Flip (US model) work on Eir?

Last checked 23 Oct 20265 sourcesWorked out from published specs

Yes, for now.

Works with caveats

Calls and texts work over 2G, which Eir keeps running with no switch-off date announced. Its 4G bands (2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 41, 66, 71 (US bands)) don't match Eir's, so expect no 4G data.

Fine for now. The catch is how calls get through: if they ride on 2G or 3G, they stop when Eir switches that off.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and Eir's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

Eir (Ireland)

  • 3G: Being switched off now: phased from 1 October 2026 (Donegal first) to 6 November 2026
  • 2G: On; no Irish operator has announced a 2G switch-off

Nokia 2780 Flip (US model)

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 850 MHz, 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz, 1900 MHz
  • 4G bands: 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 41, 66, 71 (US bands)
  • 4G Calling: unknown – Built for US networks; no UK/PT VoLTE confirmation found.

The same applies to networks that run on Eir: GoMo, Lyca Mobile. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
