Dumbphones that work in Ireland
We check 61 simple phones against 3 networks in Ireland. 37 work on at least one network, and 16 more work with caveats. Every result links to its reason and sources.
The short version
- Vodafone switched 3G off in 2024 and Eir is switching it off now (1 October to 6 November 2026). All three networks keep 2G, and no 2G switch-off has been announced, so most phones can still call.
- "Supports VoLTE" on a spec sheet isn't enough. Each network has to allow that phone.
2G and 3G switch-off dates
| Network | 3G | 2G |
|---|---|---|
| Vodafone | Switched off (October 2024) | On; no Irish operator has announced a 2G switch-off |
| Three | On; no switch-off date announced | On; no Irish operator has announced a 2G switch-off |
| Eir | Being switched off now: phased from 1 October 2026 (Donegal first) to 6 November 2026 | On; no Irish operator has announced a 2G switch-off |
From each network's own pages and the regulator. Checked 23 Oct 2026.
