Does the Palm Phone (PVG100) work on Eir?
Yes, for now.
Works with caveatsCalls and texts work over 2G, which Eir keeps running with no switch-off date announced. Its 4G bands (2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 17, 66 (US bands)) don't match Eir's, so expect no 4G data.
Fine for now. The catch is how calls get through: if they ride on 2G or 3G, they stop when Eir switches that off.
We worked this out from the phone's published bands and Eir's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.
Eir (Ireland)
- 3G: Being switched off now: phased from 1 October 2026 (Donegal first) to 6 November 2026
- 2G: On; no Irish operator has announced a 2G switch-off
Palm Phone (PVG100)
- 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
- 3G: 850 MHz, 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
- 4G bands: 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 17, 66 (US bands)
- 4G Calling: unknown – US bands only, so no 4G in the UK or Portugal.
The same applies to networks that run on Eir: GoMo, Lyca Mobile. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
