Does the Punkt MP02 work on Eir?

Last checked 23 Oct 20265 sourcesWorked out from published specs

Yes, it works.

Works

Calls and texts work over 2G, which Eir keeps running with no switch-off date announced, and 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 20).

Calls, texts and data should all work with a Eir SIM.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and Eir's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

Eir (Ireland)

  • 3G: Being switched off now: phased from 1 October 2026 (Donegal first) to 6 November 2026
  • 2G: On; no Irish operator has announced a 2G switch-off

Punkt MP02

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 800 MHz, 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
  • 4G bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 19, 20
  • 4G Calling: yes – Punkt says MP02 supports VoLTE; the APHY v1.3.1 update (V03.02.0375) 'improves VoLTE functionality with certain carriers in the UK'. Owners on r/Punkt report mixed results by network.

The same applies to networks that run on Eir: GoMo, Lyca Mobile. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
