Does the Punkt MP02 work on O2?

It works, with caveats.

Works with caveats

Calls and texts can fall back to 2G. O2 plans to start switching 2G off from 2029. It supports 4G Calling, but we haven't found confirmation that it's enabled on O2. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 8, 20).

Fine for now. The catch is how calls get through: if they ride on 2G or 3G, they stop when O2 switches that off.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and O2's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

O2 (UK)

  • 3G: Switched off (completed 2025/26)
  • 2G: Staying on for now; O2 plans to begin switching 2G off from 2029

Punkt MP02

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 800 MHz, 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
  • 4G bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 19, 20
  • 4G Calling: yes – Punkt says MP02 supports VoLTE; the APHY v1.3.1 update (V03.02.0375) 'improves VoLTE functionality with certain carriers in the UK'. Owners on r/Punkt report mixed results by network.

The same applies to networks that run on O2: giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, Sky Mobile. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
