Does the Sonim XP3 work on KPN?

Last checked 23 Oct 20265 sourcesWorked out from published specs

Mostly, with a catch.

Works with caveats

Calls and texts can fall back to 2G. KPN switches 2G off for good on 1 December 2027. We haven't found confirmation that 4G Calling works on KPN. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 38).

Expect it to work, but read the switch-off dates below. That's where the catch is.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and KPN's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

KPN (Netherlands)

  • 3G: Switched off (31 March 2022)
  • 2G: On until 1 December 2027 (KPN started moving customers who don't need it off 2G in March 2026)

Sonim XP3

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 800 MHz, 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz, 2100 MHz
  • 4G bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 12, 13, 14, 25, 26, 38, 41, 66 (no band 20)
  • 4G Calling: unknown – Built for US networks.

The same applies to networks that run on KPN: Simyo. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
