Does the HMD Barbie Phone work on EE?

Last checked 22 Oct 20264 sourcesWorked out from published specs

Yes, for now.

Works with caveats

Calls and texts can fall back to 2G. EE starts switching 2G off from May 2029. It supports 4G Calling, but we haven't found confirmation that it's enabled on EE. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 7, 20, 38).

It works today, but calls on the HMD Barbie Phone rely on a part of EE's network with a switch-off on the way. Check the dates below before you commit for years.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and EE's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

EE (UK)

  • 3G: Switched off (completed 2024)
  • 2G: Staying on for now; EE says it will start switching 2G off from May 2029

HMD Barbie Phone

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
  • 4G bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 39, 40, 41
  • 4G Calling: yes – Listed in HMD's VoLTE-verified product list (TA-1681).

The same applies to networks that run on EE: BT Mobile. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
