Does the HMD Barbie Phone work on O2?

Last checked 22 Oct 20263 sourcesWorked out from published specs

Yes, for now.

Works with caveats

Calls and texts can fall back to 2G. O2 plans to start switching 2G off from 2029. It supports 4G Calling, but we haven't found confirmation that it's enabled on O2. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 8, 20, 28, 40).

Expect it to work, but read the switch-off dates below. That's where the catch is.

We worked this out from the phone's published bands and O2's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.

O2 (UK)

  • 3G: Switched off (completed 2025/26)
  • 2G: Staying on for now; O2 plans to begin switching 2G off from 2029

HMD Barbie Phone

  • 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
  • 4G bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 39, 40, 41
  • 4G Calling: yes – Listed in HMD's VoLTE-verified product list (TA-1681).

The same applies to networks that run on O2: giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, Sky Mobile. Smaller networks sometimes handle 4G Calling differently, so check with them too.
