Does the Punkt MP02 work on Free Mobile?
Mostly, with a catch.
Works with caveatsWith 2G being switched off, calls and texts fall back to 3G, which this phone supports (900 MHz, 2100 MHz). Free hasn't announced a 3G switch-off date. It supports 4G Calling, but we haven't found confirmation that it's enabled on Free Mobile. 4G data should work (shared bands: 1, 3, 7).
It works today, but calls on the Punkt MP02 rely on a part of Free Mobile's network with a switch-off on the way. Check the dates below before you commit for years.
We worked this out from the phone's published bands and Free Mobile's own published network facts (see How we check). Nobody has confirmed it for this exact pairing yet.
Free Mobile (France)
- 3G: On; no switch-off date announced
- 2G: No 2G of its own: uses Orange's 2G, which is off across mainland France since 20 October 2026 ("white zones" until 1–15 December 2026)
Punkt MP02
- 2G: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
- 3G: 800 MHz, 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
- 4G bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 19, 20
- 4G Calling: yes – Punkt says MP02 supports VoLTE; the APHY v1.3.1 update (V03.02.0375) 'improves VoLTE functionality with certain carriers in the UK'. Owners on r/Punkt report mixed results by network.
