Dumbphones that work in Italy

We check 61 simple phones against 4 networks in Italy. 38 work on at least one network, and 15 more work with caveats. Every result links to its reason and sources.

The short version

TIM and Vodafone switched 3G off in 2021–2022 but keep 2G, with no switch-off date announced. WindTre still runs 3G on 900 MHz and is trialling blocking it. Iliad uses WindTre's 2G for calls when 4G Calling isn't available.
"Supports VoLTE" on a spec sheet isn't enough. Each network has to allow that phone.

2G and 3G switch-off dates

Network	3G	2G
TIM	Switched off (completed 15 October 2022)	On; no switch-off date announced
Vodafone (Fastweb + Vodafone)	Switched off (completed February 2021)	On; no switch-off date announced
WindTre	On 900 MHz only (2100 MHz 3G closed from June 2024); a software-block trial was approved in October 2026	On; no switch-off date announced
Iliad	Uses its own and WindTre's 3G; no switch-off date announced	Uses WindTre's 2G through national roaming; no switch-off date announced

From each network's own pages and the regulator. Checked 23 Oct 2026.
