Dumbphones that work in Germany
We check 61 simple phones against 4 networks in Germany. 0 work on at least one network, and 53 more work with caveats. Every result links to its reason and sources.
The short version
- 3G went in 2021. 2G stays until 2028: Telekom by 30 June 2028, Vodafone in September 2028, O2 in the second half of 2028. 1&1 uses Vodafone's 2G.
- After that, a phone needs 4G Calling enabled on your network. We haven't found public network lists for simple phones in Germany yet, so most results are "with caveats".
- "Supports VoLTE" on a spec sheet isn't enough. Each network has to allow that phone.
2G and 3G switch-off dates
| Network | 3G | 2G |
|---|---|---|
| Telekom | Switched off in 2021 | On until 30 June 2028, when Telekom plans to switch it off completely |
| Vodafone | Switched off in 2021 | On until September 2028 (kept for critical IoT only until the end of 2030) |
| O2 (Telefónica) | Switched off in 2021 | On until the second half of 2028 (replace 2G-only devices by 1 July 2028) |
| 1&1 | No 3G network | No 2G of its own: uses Vodafone's 2G via national roaming, so Vodafone's September 2028 date applies |
From each network's own pages and the regulator. Checked 23 Oct 2026.
